Realizing Awakened Awareness through Unconditional Love and Compassion

October 4, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - October 6, 2019 @ 12:00 pm

Realizing Awakened Awareness through Unconditional Love and Compassion

Teacher(s): Lama John Makransky

Guiding Teacher: Lama John Makransky, Ph.D.

Join the developer of Innate Compassion-Wisdom Training (ICT), John Makransky in deepening the experience of our inborn awakened capacity. In this practice, we become receptive to the unconditioned openness, compassion, wisdom, and peace of our buddha nature by participating in a field of unconditional love for self and others. Yet parts of us, often unconsciously, prevent us from becoming more fully receptive to such qualities of awakening. And this can impede even long-time practitioners from much fuller access to awakened awareness. With newly developed elements of ICT, John will show us how the compassionate, healing powers of our buddha nature can help realign all parts of ourselves with that nature. Then our innate awakened awareness can increasingly manifest of itself, unleashing its powers of wisdom and love in action, while empowering all other practices of awakening.

This retreat is both for Buddhists who wish to deepen their experience of awakening, and for people of all faiths and backgrounds who seek an accessible way to cultivate unconditional powers of love, compassion, and discernment for action. Guided meditations, explanation of key concepts, and discussion with participants to clarify and empower practice.

John Makransky is Associate Professor of Buddhism and Comparative Theology at Boston College, senior advisor for Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche’s Centre for Buddhist Studies in Nepal, and current President of the Society of Buddhist-Christian studies. In 2000, John was ordained as a Lama, a meditation teacher of innate love, compassion and wisdom, within the Nyingma, Dzogchen tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

John is the developer of the Sustainable Compassion Training (SCT) model, author of the popular meditation manual Awakening through Love, and co-founder of Courage of Care Coalition and Foundation for Active Compassion, organizations that provide contemplative trainings in sustainable care and compassion for people in caring professions and social and environmental activism. John’s writings have focused on concepts and practices of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, ways of adapting Buddhist practices to address contemporary problems and needs, and theoretical issues in interfaith learning.
